Ashuriena Abraham is an indigenous Assyrian human rights advocate with a background in technology, focused on raising awareness and advocating for the rights of Assyrians in their ancestral homeland. Born in exile after her parents fled Assyria to escape violence, Ashuriena’s advocacy is deeply personal, driven by the history and struggles of her faithful people. Under the guidance of a mentor, she has worked as part of a dedicated two-person team to conduct extensive research on the most urgent threats facing Assyrians today. Together, they have authored publications on these struggles in Iraq and Syria and have submitted critical information and evidence to expand the databases of international organizations, global institutions, and NGOs, particularly regarding Assyrian issues, violent incidents, and systemic displacement. Ashuriena also serves as the MENA Co-Chair of the Global Youth Summit on Freedom of Religion or Belief through her fellowship with the First Freedom Foundation. In addition to raising awareness, Ashuriena actively advocates for Yezidi and Mandaean communities facing similar threats to their survival. She is also involved in the Assyrian American Association of Southern California, furthering her commitment to Assyrian cultural and humanitarian efforts.
